[Salon] Trump Says America First Critics of Iran War 'Are Not MAGA' as GOP Rift Grows (3/16/26)

Earlier on Sunday, Trump denied that he and Netanyahu had clashed over the war, saying that the two 'get along well,' while claiming that the prime minister would 'tell you that we're leading the whole thing. I can say it or not say it, it doesn't matter'

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday defended conservative commentator Mark Levin and criticized figures in the "America First" isolationist wing of his political base, weighing in on a growing divide among Republicans over foreign policy, particularly the war with Iran and support for Israel.

In a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform, Trump praised the Fox News host, a prominent advocate of a hard-line approach toward Iran, while dismissing critics within the conservative media sphere who oppose deeper U.S. involvement in the Middle East.

"Mark Levin, a truly Great American Patriot, is somewhat under siege by other people with far less Intellect, Capability, and Love for our Country," the president wrote.

Earlier on Sunday, Trump denied that he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had clashed over the war, saying that the two "get along well."

He added, "He would tell you that we're leading the whole thing. I can say it or not say it, it doesn't matter. The main thing is to get it done. My relationship with Bibi Netanyahu is extraordinary, actually."

"You could make the case that maybe we shouldn't even be there at all," Trump said. "It's almost like we do it for habit. But we also do it for some very good allies that we have in the Middle East."

Levin, who has been at odds with far-right media pundit Tucker Carlson in recent months over the latter's alleged ties with Qatar and efforts to sway Trump away from supporting Israel, has been feuding with conservative pundit Megyn Kelly in recent days, particularly over her attacks on Israel and her allegation that it pulled the U.S. into war.

"When you hear others unfairly attack Mark, remember that they are jealous and angry Human Beings," Trump wrote. "Now that they know where I stand," Trump continued, Levin's critics' sway with the public will "rapidly diminish."

"Those that speak ill of Mark will quickly fall by the wayside, as do the people whose ideas, policies, and footings are not sound," the president added.

Trump also sought to define the boundaries of his political movement, declaring that critics of the war with Iran fall outside the "MAGA" camp. Trump said those opposing his stance toward Iran "ARE NOT MAGA, I AM," arguing that the movement includes preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The president said stopping Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb was central to his political agenda, adding that his administration was "stopping them cold."
